| Bast Designs is owned and operated by me - Sandra Signorelli. I have been making jewelry on and off since I was in elementary school. I began to put my hand to more serious designs about eight years ago, making items for sale under a friends businesses. However, the design work I did at that time was limited, and I did not really consider it for my own business. Then, just by luck, a belly dancer on the east coast commissioned an Egyptian style collar from me, and that is when I took my first steps into making jewelry for the belly dance community.
When my friend, Christine Cole of Skyes Boutique, learned about my jewelry making, she encouraged me to take the next step... to start Bast Designs. Chris had always been a great cheering section for me, from my first stumbling steps as a designer. I was shocked to learn that she (and many others) felt most of the jewelry available was generic cookie-cutter style, and poorly made as well - especially in comparison to the earrings that I first made for her.
I soon discovered that there is definitely a market for the unique hand-made designs I produce, and I have followed that creative path into a variety of items, including earrings, hand flowers, collars, and an extremely large selection of chokers.
Producing belly dance jewelry has allowed me to indulge in creating items that have big and bold looks, bright colors, and a huge amount of sparkle! But big and bold does not mean heavy and uncomfortable. Most of my earrings are lightweight, and can be comfortably worn by those with weight-sensitive ears. People who believed they could not wear chokers at all have found they can wear my chokers comfortably. And because each piece of jewelry is constructed by hand, and I am more than happy to work with any client to create completely new and original jewelry for them. If you have special requirements, we can work together to find a practical and beautiful solution.
When I'm designing, I keep in mind - with everything I make - that I want it to look good, be comfortable to wear, and be durable and well constructed. If a new creation doesnt want to stay together, I either find a way to make it work properly, or I wont make it anymore. If a clasp or bead I use turns out to be prone to break easily, I stop using it immediately. If you purchase an item from me, and a piece I used or a design flaw causes it to break, I want to know! Please tell me, because I want you to be happy with every piece of jewelry you receive from Bast Designs, and I want to ensure that everything I make is the highest quality.
